The group will begin this field study at 9:30 a.m. with raising sail, then split into smaller groups to rotate through a series of studies. These stations typically include: oyster dissection, water quality testing, navigation and buoyancy. Prior to lunch and weather permitting, the S.V. Sigsbee will dredge at the oyster bed by Fort Carrdl to allow the group to conduct an oyster survey. After lunch, the group will focus on trawl fishing and will help set and retrieve the net. In addition, the afternoon may include a plankton tow followed by observation using a video-microscope. The day concludes with striking sail. Fee: $35.00/person (limit 32) |
