Each field study will be filled on a first come basis. If the minimum number required for a field study is not met, it will be cancelled and your payment refunded.

Coral Reef Snorkel Trip
Morning and Afternoon


This is a three-hour excursion to Coffin’s Patch Reef, a protected area within the Marine Sanctuary of the Florida Keys. You will travel to the reef on a 40-foot sailing catamaran. Approximately one hour of the trip will be available for snorkeling. Average depth of the reef is 8 to 12 feet. You will have the opportunity to see hundreds of species of marine organisms including the unique pillar coral. Soda and water are provided during the trip. Trip departs from Hawk’s Cay Marina at 9AM and 1PM. With your own snorkel equipment the cost is $30.00 and if the trip operator provides you with snorkel equipment the cost is $35.00. Maximum number of participants per trip is 49.

 

Blue Water Angling Experience
Morning and Afternoon


Join Captain Bobby and five of your colleagues to head for the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean off Marathon. Fish either a Post 47 foot sportfisher or a Sportcraft 28 foot center console. Battle Gulf Stream species such as dolphin, wahoo, sailfish and tuna. Trip departs from Sombrero Resort at 7:30AM and 1PM. The cost is $300.00 per boat with 6 participants per boat. A minimum of 6 participants is required for this trip. Maximum number of participants per trip is 12. Cost: $50.00 per person.



Red Mangrove Kayaking  CANCELLED

Join kayak Dave as you depart from Sombrero Resort to explore the vast diversity of life above and below the water of the exotic red mangrove forest. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned paddler, everyone can enjoy this learning adventure. The trip departs at approximately 2PM and lasts 3 hours. The cost is $40.00 per person. This trip needs a minimum of 12 participants and can accommodate a maximum of 24. Information on this trip can be viewed at www.marathonkayak.com.

Crane Point Interpretive Walk  CANCELLED

Join your guide on a stroll through 64 acres of tropical hardwood hammock. Along the way you will learn interesting facts about ancient Native Americans, pirates and railroaders that survived the harsh Florida Keys environment. Tour begins at 9AM at Carne Point Hammock and lasts two hours. This biological and historical walking tour can accommodate a maximum of 20 people and the cost is $10.00 per person.

Dolphin Connection  CANCELLED

Join one of program educators for discussion of marine mammal natural history and research. One of the trainers will take over next at the outdoor classroom, providing the group an understanding of how dolphins are trained. Next, your group will accompany a trainer to meet the local dolphins and enter the back-up areas to get a sneak peak at dolphin food fish and nutrition. The program will be completed by discussion on ocean conservation issues, endangered species and a Q and A session. Each participant will receive a marine education take home activity to utilize in their own program setting. The Tour begins at 9:15AM or 12:15PM at the Hawk’s Cay Resort Dolphin Bay Gift Shop and the cost is $30.00 per person. A minimum of 10 participants is required and a maximum of 20 participants can attend each trip.
